Can you use a guitar effects pedal on a bass?

I was wondering if you could use a guitar pedal on a bass. My dad has a DOD Stereo Chorus pedal and I wanted to see if I could use it on my bass with my Boss ODB-3 pedal. What will the DOD pedal sound like?

Sure you can. I’ve got a mid-70’s Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phase Shifter on my bass pedalboard that sounds great, and it was designed as a “guitar” effect.

The problem that you will see with some guitar effects when used with a bass is that your low end will be diminished. Effects optimized for a bass will have a lower frequency response. Some only apply the effect to the higher frequencies on the bass, and let the low end pass through unaffected.

But, try it out. It’s not going to hurt anything!
