Is it important to set the White Balance before taking a RAW picture?

Just curious, is it is important to set the White balance if I am taking a RAW picture? I know can edit the RAW pictures afterwards, but Im not sure if I get a more accurate picture if I start with a White balanced RAW photo.

It is not important to set white balance when shooting RAW. Any WB isn’t even applied to RAW image data.

The technique to get the most accurate white balance is to shoot RAW and use a grey-card reference. There are different ways to include the card either as a separate “white balance” reference capture or as part of the subject. If you are making many recordings under the same lighting you can use the same grey-car reference for all the images to speed up the post processes.

You don’t have to use the very best grey-card but here is one that is good and has lots of good tutorials on how to best use them.
