Don’t put something in your aquarium unless your 100% sure it is aquarium safe. Rocks and other things you find outside(or even inside) can contaminate your water and make your fish ill or die. Chances are, you’re not going to find much around the house that you can easily determine if it will go in your tank(in your case, bowl, but you SHOULD have a tank. 5g or larger with a filter is preferred.) without harm. If you can find a PVC pipe and cut it to be 3 to 4 inches that may go well in a 5g, and your Betta will enjoy it. Another little neat hiding space your Betta may take a liking to that is aquarium safe, but I have never personally used, is a Terra Cotta Pot. You can buy them cheaply. If you have one outside, make sure you clean it very well and PROPERLY/aquarium safe before placing it in your tank(not bowl).

If you do have money, though, and simply want to have fun little fish projects to do, there are many things you can find on the web for DIY projects. If you can buy some Silicone(100%) glue, get some, because that will be useful and it’s safe for aquariums. Just search “DIY aquarium decor” in google and you’re bound to find some neat things. If you really want to have a great fish experience, and for your Betta to have a great life, upgrade to a 5g tank.

Betta should be offered a variety of foods, but none include plant roots. Betta Pellets, Frozen Blood Worms, Live/Frozen Brine Shrimp and Frozen Peas are all good foods for your Betta. Be very careful not to over feed or leave extra food in the tank.

You should look up common Betta diseases so that you can learn how to prevent/help prevent the disease from occurring in the first place, and so you can be prepared, have the medications, and know what to do if an illness does find it’s way to your Betta.
