Shaft Pots
Can screw set guitar knobs work on a standard split shaft pot?
I have a Sheraton and I want to swap the knobs with these skull knobs I found. But the original knobs are friction style and the skulls are screw set. The shafts on the pots are standard split. Will this work?
You will more than likely ruin the threads on the shaft and make it very hard to use friction style knobs for the future. That said, as long as the knobs fit you can screw them on, just don’t use a lot of force when you tighten the screws.
I have done this a couple of times personally when folks have insisted they wanted that particular knob and didn’t waned to spend the money to change the pots. It has happened that shafts have been broken over time when the screws have been tightened…
If I were you I would change the pots if you absolutely want to have these type of knobs.
