What is the best type of screw to use in a tree?
Want to hang a bird house for my wife, what is the safest screw/fastener to use in a tree to avoid damaging it? Standard dry wall screw, galvanized, stainless, hot dipped, etc.
Hanging is wasn’t the question – nearest branch is 40′ high, so it would either be not-visible or would swing wildly in the wind. The question was what type of screw to use, alternative fastening methods I’m open to, but that solution does not work for this scenario.
Get a hand full of the GREEN deck screws. These have a corrosion resistant coating that standard “gold” deck screws don’t have.It’s best to avoid drywall screws as the black phosphate coating actually invites corrosion when exposed to moisture-also when used outdoors the coating is prone to “bleeding” out.If the tree is 40 +’ tall the likelihood a screw or two will damage the tree is,in fact, minimal.
