Rosewood Fingerboard
What is the difference between rosewood and embroidered fingerboard and peg?
OK. I am buying a cello online and I need to know the difference between a rosewood fingerboard and pegs or an embroidered fingerboard and pegs. Also, which do you think is better?
Was the choice between rosewood and embroidered or between rosewood and ebony? The first choice doesn’t make any sense to me. If it’s the second choice, rosewood is brownish and color, and has quite a visible grain to it, while ebony is close to black (and is frequently stained black), and has little or no visible grain. I’ve been told that ebony fingerboards can be refretted more times than rosewood fingerboards (on guitars), but that’s sort of irrelevant for a cello. I believe that ebony is the traditional material for fingerboards and tuning pegs for cellos, basses, violas, and violins.
