How does an Epiphone Les Paul Special compare to a Samick Avion?
I have an epiphone less paul special and i might trade it for a samick avion so im wondering which one is better?
but isnt your les paul standard a ton better than my les paul special? the standards go for like $200 more than the specials. i thought the special was just a Beginner Guitar. i got it when i was just learning how to play cuz it was all i could afford.
Actually Samick used to make Epiphone until Gibson got another factory in Asia to build them for less money. Samick also used to make Squier.
The Avions I looked at on line were all set necks and some even actually had figured wood tops.
If your special is the one they sell these days with a bolt on neck the Samick is definitely better.
The old Gibson specials were flat top all mahogany set neck guitars with P90 pickups and were wonderful, no fancy inlays but they played and sounded great if the wraparound bridge played in tune.
As for the snapped neck: more Gibson necks break than any other kind because Gibson doen not put a volute (thicker reinforcing spot) where the angle is for the headstock, not even on $5000 guitars. Everyone else does because that’s the weak place on the neck. Look for the little lump there.
