Paf Pickup
I’ve heard vintage humbucking pickups on Gibson guitars called PAFS. What does PAF mean?
PAF stands for Patent Applied For. Back in the 50’s a Gibson employee named Seth Lover discovered that putting 2 single coil pickups together (one standard and one reverse wound) would eliminate the 60 cycle hum associated with single coil pickups. He applied for a patent and the term has stuck for humbuckers.
