Slow Internet connection / while second computer is fast?
I have two computers hooked to the same router ( cable modem) – one downloads at over 7 mbs while the other downloads at 5-600 kbps.
On the slower one I recently reformatted hard drive.
(New install of Windows XP SP2)
I have tried a different cable and get the same results.
The slower computer is actually the faster one.
2.4 P4 with 1 GB of RAM.
Do NICs wear out? Driver problem?
Lava Soft Adaware finds nothing.
I am thinking it is a software problem or the NIC.
Any ideas?
New NIC solved the problem
I would swap your NIC first – Antivirus can slow connections to but I have only seen AntiVirus slow a 15mbs connection to 5Mbs – I think you would be happy with 5 so try the NIC or may want to try a newer or even older driver for that NIC and see if that helps before getting another NIC.
